I can't tell you how many years we have been coming here. Is always casual, warm/welcoming, and great food. Will continue to be a loyal customer as long as they keep the doors open.

Love that they have whole belly clams. And my timing was perfect because they had very large bellies (what I like ) as well as small ones. An hour drive from home but definitely worth the peaceful ride.

I was born & raised and lived in New England for 45 years. I lived in the Ocean State and would get seafood literally off the boat in Narragansett. It was close to what I am used to as far as seafood. Not quite as good but ok.

Great food. Reasonable prices & great service. Generous proportions of food. The onion rings were probably the best I've ever tasted being that they were lightly battered and The Taste was fantastic. My wife's 2 large portions of fish were awesome as well.

Excellent seafood!!I took my 82 year "young" father there for his birthday today. It was our first time there. I googled for a place that serves whole belly clams fried, cause that's his favorite, and Essex seafood came up. I read the reviews and decided we should try it. Needless to say, the reviews were spot on!! We all loved it and plan on many more visits I forgot to takes pics of our seafood 🙃

Ok, it's pretty much all fried, and yes it's super casual on a lonely stretch of SR 40, but it's good. Where else can you get a huge pile of Whole Belly Clams? And the fried oysters are as good as it gets. Just don't order a Chef's Salad and watercress sandwich. The staff is great too.

Used to love this place for their fried seafood. Until I went there for dinner on Wednesday night . Food come to our table over cooked all most burnt.I mean everything even the sides.The portion's looked like a child's meal.You could see the oil in a pool at the bottom of the plates. Sent back food what came out next was what they normally serve. Golden brown fried seafood no oil in the dish and their normal size portion??. But this did not save the night. The other couple was so turned off by there first plate . That they did not want to eat anything else.. Which is sad because they were looking forward to trying your establishment. A word to the wise. If your food does not look right then don't serve it. This is how a great place goes down the drain.

If I could give this place no stars I would. Ordered fried oysters which I got under cooked the batter was mushy and you could tell they put them in the fryer while still frozen. No flavor at all to any of the food. Would not recommend anyone eat at this place.

This no frills hole-in-the-wall seafood restaurant offers great New England style seafood at decent prices. Very good food in a homey, unpretentious atmosphere. Whole belly clams, clam strips, haddock, scallops, and shrimp were abundant on my plate. Hot & Delicious. Served with 2 sides. Come hungry. Save room to share the huge piece of Boston Cream Pie.

We arrived at 3:00 pm and the place was busy but we only waited under 5 minutes to get a seat. This place is small and you seat yourself. When our beverages were brought to us my glass was dirty and I had to ask for another one. The server was pleasant and the food was okay. I asked twice for a to go box with no response. I had to finally get up and ask for one. They only accept cash but we knew that before we got there. My friend and I left to do some shopping and within 45 minutes from leaving the restaurant my friend became very sick in the stomach and had issues all night. I didn't get sick. We ordered different seafood plates.

Me my husband and my son came here and got fried pickles, gator snacks and we all got a seafood plate each. We picked 2 sides each that comes with the meal 18.99. I got haddock, shrimp, scallops, clam strips and my 2 sides were onion rings and fries and they were delicious. My husband got shrimp, scallops, haddock, clam strips, hush puppies and onion rings. My son got shrimp, clam bellies, scallops, haddock, hush puppies and onion rings. We all got a large portion and were so full we had to take just about all of it home. Give it a try and you'll see for yourself and you won't be sorry. Such a beautiful ride to get there too. Enjoy!

Shrimp were nice size and freshly made. Our meals came out quick and our waitress was very nice and efficient. I can't recommend the tea though.

This place is the best seafood I have had in years OMG can't wait to go back. Service was Awesome friendly and always coming back to the table to ask if there was anything else. First time there promise won't be the last

OMG, ITS NO JOKE! MY FAMILY IS FROM BOSTON AND WE HATE EVERY FOID PLACE IN FLORIDA.AFTER 9 YEARS WE FINALLY FOUND A PLACE WE LOVE AND ITS THIS PLACE! YUUMMYYY IT'S TRUE, JUST LIKE NEW ENGLAND CLAMS. Curbside service!! The food was great as expected as always!!

I've passed by this little place many times and finally stopped....glad I did! It was delicious! The food is very good and in very large portions! I am addicted to the clam strips boat....yum! My teenage son got a steak and said it was very good. They have everything from shrimp to frog legs & gator to steak & burgers. I don't like onion rings very much but theirs are the best!!! Service was quite good too. Don't forget the Boston cream cake! Delicious!!! Only con (if you're not familiar with the place) is it is CASH ONLY! There is a gas station which I'm assuming has an ATM virtually nextdoor.

Food is always excellent. It is the best seafood around. If you haven't tried it you should definitely put it on your to do list.

This quaint little seafood restaurant has awesome food! Friendly staff and super quick service. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is they only accept cash. No credit cards.

Best place around for New England style seafood! Beats Boston fish and Leanas hands down..steamers..wholebelly clams..lobster! We have never had a bad meal here! Staff is friendly and service is quick! It's a great bike ride from Daytona just remember not to stuff yourself..makes the ride back a tad uncomfortable😜

If you’re from New England this place will feel like home! Amazing Fried clams, lobster, lobster rolls etc... It’s not fancy but great food and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend

Best fried haddock! The fried gator tail, shrimp, clam strips, onion rings & pickles are so good!! Impressed to see some New England style seafood incorporated here; which makes this one of the best fried seafood restaurants in the state! The staff is friendly and very caring. You will be well taken care of here and will leave full (most likely with some leftovers for later:) If you have kids, check out the turtles in the pond out back. Old Florida Southern hospitality at its best.

Blackened gator tail was awesome! Best I've had in any restaurant anywhere! Usually like my own kabob style. So kudos for making my belly happy. 5 gen Floridian!

This is one of those little places you can easily drive past and have no idea what a gem it is. It's very small and if its busy you may have to wait a bit but I promise it is well worth it. BEST claim strips I had in a long time. Great prices and the stuff are down to earth and friendly.

I go there every month or two year round. Best whole belly clams in Florida. Fried to perfection and fresh. I watched them take them out of the shell. They have a awesome over two lb boiled lobster for about $40. Ne England lobster the real deal. Nothing fancy wonderful family type staff. Wish they open a branch in ocala

The staff was amazing. The tables were perfectly spaced and followed social distancing guide lines. The waitress was actually celebrating her husband's birthday I believe and gave my daughter's both a piece of cake. So sweet. Thank you 😁

Really good selection of seafood. Whole belly clams, oysters, shrimp, scallops, lobster, lobster rolls, crab legs and more. Excellent service. I gave only 4 stars because I felt it was a bit pricey for fried comfort food. About $18 per entree and a lot more for crab or Lobster. Food was high quality and probably the best Boston Cream Pie outside of Boston.

Our second visit in just a few days. It was still outstanding. Lobster roll was spectacular. Had it cold on a kaiser roll. So yummy. Had to have onion rings again as they are sooooo good.

Food is always good. You get a good serving each and every time. People are friendly and they remember you when you return.

So disappointed with this place. The portions were tiny and had zero flavor. The onion rings were completely tasteless. No seasoning at all. How do you screw up onion rings? The best thing we had was the coleslaw. If you are a seafood restaurant, that should NOT be your best item.

Small roadside resturant with big flavor! The sign advertises Famous Fried Clams and they are right! Being from Maine it's hard to find whole clams that measure up in Florida - but their corn meal batter was the perfect complement to the clams. Cooked perfectly with a light fluffy coating! This is my #1 Fried Clam place in Florida now! Can't wait to go back and try some of the other menu items - their shrimp looked delicious.

The Essex never fails to provide the freshest New England seafood available in Florida. The ambiance is similar to a slightly upscale NE clam shack, except it's cleaner. I've had fresh steamers and fried clams here for well over 10 years and have never been disappointed, and since I'm a transplanted Massachusetts girl, I know what I'm talking about!! The prices are reasonable, they serve fresh Ipswich seafood and are by far my favorite restaurant in the South. Totally love their food and service!!

Got a scallop plate, not the boat. There were literally 6 small, rubbery, over cooked scallops. The Onion rings were dry and lacking any flavor. My dates catfish was the same, bland and dry. Everything here is bland. When we got home and checked the bill we were over charged more than $10! Even though they charge $2.50 for a can of soda! I can see why they are closing more days each week. If you want some fried food check out anyplace else. If you want dry , bland, greasy food and get overcharged then this is the place for you.

It seemed out in the middle of no where. We drove up to it, and it's just a little building, and we thought this should be interesting. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. Got the food and it was very good ! So glad we went, we will be back !

I am from Maine to his restaurant knows how to cook seafood. Amazing. I drive 100 miles for their food worth every mile. You r the best keep those doors open

Love the fried clams with bellies and the scallops are my favorite. I have been to Essex seafood in Essex MA several times, this is just as good. Our family goes here as often as possible. Delicious, good people, food and homey atmosphere. A must.

Great Fried Clams, have enjoyed the place a couple of times traveling through Astor.

Delicious home cooked dishes. Handmade onion rings and good portions of grouper whether as "fingers" or a sandwich. Their batter is so light it nearly melted in your mouth.

Best seafood around. And great staff. Very clean and friendly.
